I like rabbits. I love rabbit holes!

I’m Bob Zhao, a high school student at The Webb Schools, a boarding school in Claremont, California. I previously attended Fay School, a boarding middle school in Southborough, Massachusetts.

Most of my time is spent following questions farther than they probably need to go. Those questions have taken me through mathematics and computational research, from modeling cell-state transitions to studying how orientation errors affect neural inertial navigation. Outside of research, I’m an endurance athlete, an obsessive home cook, and someone who spends perhaps too much time thinking about restaurants. I’ve finished an Ironman, ran a marathon around a 400-meter track, worked in a restaurant kitchen, and once turned my curiosity about getting a better crust on steak into a mathematical optimization project.

I also read rather indiscriminately—philosophy, economics, exercise science, fermentation, computer architecture, or whatever else happens to catch my attention that week.

I like doing things for the wonderfully insufficient reason that I want to see what happens.
